Back To School...Be Safe

Updated: Aug 19, 2019

The Texas Department of Transportation reported that in 2017 there were 811 crashes in designated “school zones”. Of those 811 crashes, 2 resulted in death and over 30 were considered serious injuries. The study found that the two leading causes of these crashes were speeding, and driver inattention.

These statistics are startling for several reasons. However, the most surprising lesson learned from these statistics is that crashes in “school zones” appear to be extremely avoidable. Every licensed driver knows what “school zones” are. Everyone knows that our most precious resource resides within these protected “zones”.

Slow down. Stay off of your phone. Pay attention. If drivers simply commit to doing these little things, we can make a big impact in ensuring the safety of everyone’s children.
